acne beards beards ACNE

two things you won't see at Acne fw2012: acne beards or beards.  my daughter used the term acne beard to describe many of her male classmates complexions.  ("when boys have razorburned acne, it's an acne beard-duh." so sassy, that girl!)  her peers must not have access to to the quality skincare treatments as those handsome men on Acne's fw runway.  let me be the elephant in the room and say loud and proud "i love a clean beard on a moisturized handsome confident face!!!" just as much (but maybe more than) the next girl. but there were no beards to be seen at Acne.  only plenty of moisturized handsome and confident faces!!!

especially love these colors together!

knit and printed hearts

so many bright colors paired black

nice layers. traditional check and an irreverent print.

lust never sleeps

lay your eyes on Walter Van Beirendonck's f12 collection. i think my head exploded.  i love the theatrics of his runway show featuring models wearing indigenous-inspired masks.  i see looks inspired by classic menswear, rap and hip hop style, and the art of the Yoruba culture (fyi: i'm practically an expert on African art thanks to Professor Fred T. Smith).  i've been playing with lavender and buttery yellow in my own wovens and prints and i'm so very happy to see it in my favorite menswear designer's collection!

skyscraper

currently I am reading The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.  it is an historic account of the architects that built the 1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago alongside the story of H.H. Holmes, America's very first documented serial killer!  let me be the first to tell you that he puts Jack the Ripper to shame, for real.  anyway, it occurred to me that only recently in engineering history did skyscrapers begin appearing in cities around the world.  i imagined the awe and marvel experienced by people at their first sight of structures that actually ascended above the clouds!  i imagine that it was similar to the sensation that i had while viewing Gucci, Derek Lam and Roberto Cavelli’s super luxe and super glam gowns from their ss12 collections.  many of the silhouettes are also reminiscent of those bygone times.  think trapezoids, geometrics, sunbursts, Art Deco, Futurism, and NeoClassical styles.

Wires 10.0 by Jantine Van Peski

i just discovered these designs from Jantine Van Peski.  all laboriously knotted from wool or silk yarns and paired with garments made of silk, wool and leather.  i love the sleek and minimalist construction of pieces paired with decadent and heavy organic shapes.

i couldn't resist including some of her sketches too.  see more at her website!

anticamera

in my excitement for Marni's spring collaboration with H&M, i've done a lot of staring at Marni's website.  i discovered that Marni has a CHAmazing e-magazine called ANTICAMERA.

ANTICAMERA

also on their website is a link to Marni's blog, WAFFLING.

hurry up March 8, 2012....but i am, admittedly, not excited about bumping elbows with "mall folk" just to get my hands on my future favorite dress.
