currently I am reading The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. it is an historic account of the architects that built the
1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago alongside the story of H.H. Holmes, America's very first documented serial killer! let me be the first to tell you that he puts Jack the Ripper to shame, for real. anyway, it occurred to me that only recently in
engineering history did skyscrapers begin appearing in cities around the
world. i imagined the awe and marvel experienced by people at their
first sight of structures that actually ascended above the clouds! i
imagine that it was similar to the sensation that i had while viewing Gucci,
Derek Lam and Roberto Cavelli’s super luxe and super glam gowns from
their ss12 collections. many of the silhouettes are also
reminiscent of those bygone times. think trapezoids, geometrics,
sunbursts, Art Deco, Futurism, and NeoClassical styles.
